Outdoor bike rack: how to choose the right one

Indice

    Bicycles leaning against the wall, handlebars getting tangled, pedals clashing, and increasingly narrow passages.

    This often happens in garages, courtyards, condominiums, and accommodation facilities, especially when the number of bicycles increases over time and there isn't a specific place to store them.

    An outdoor bike rack helps keep the space tidier, but not all models are suitable for the same use. Before purchasing, it's important to consider the material, the distance between the supports, the fixing system, and the actual number of spaces needed.

    Start from the environment where it will be installed

    An outdoor bike rack intended for a covered garage faces different conditions than a model installed in a courtyard, near the sea, or in a space exposed to humidity.

    In outdoor environments, the choice of material becomes crucial. Rain, temperature fluctuations, humidity, and saltiness can accelerate the deterioration of unsuitable surfaces and coatings.

    For courtyards, condominiums, accommodation facilities, and coastal areas, it is preferable to choose a material with good corrosion resistance, without relying solely on a surface coating.

    Why choose an outdoor bike rack made of stainless steel

    Stainless steel is particularly suitable when the bike rack needs to remain outdoors or be used in more demanding environments.

    The INOXLM outdoor bike rack is made of AISI 304 stainless steel with a satin finish and is suitable for both indoor and outdoor spaces, including marine environments.

    The satin finish maintains a sober and professional appearance, suitable for domestic, condominium, and commercial contexts.

    Therefore, it is not just a functional element: the choice of material also affects the perceived durability and the integration of the rack into the surrounding space.

    Check the distance between bikes

    One of the most overlooked aspects is the distance between wheel supports.

    When the spaces are too close, bicycles can be difficult to insert and remove. Handlebars, pedals, and frames can also interfere with each other, especially when different-sized models are stored.

    In the INOXLM rack, the distance between supports is 38 cm. This space allows for more orderly bicycle arrangement and reduces interference during daily use.

    Both the front and rear wheels can be inserted. The structure is suitable for common city bikes, children's bikes, and mountain bikes, excluding fat bikes.

    Choose a stable structure that can be fixed to the floor

    A rack simply placed on the ground can shift when bicycles are being inserted or removed.

    For a stable installation, it is important to check for fixing points and the necessary mounting elements.

    Each INOXLM two-space module has four fixing points and can be installed on pavements such as concrete or pavers. Fischer plugs and stainless steel hardware are included in the package.

    Before installation, it is still advisable to check that the paving is solid and suitable for the type of fixing planned.

    How many spaces are really needed?

    The number of bicycles present today is not always what will need to be managed in the future.

    New bikes for children or guests may be added in a home. In a condominium, company, or accommodation facility, however, needs can change based on the number of people using the space.

    A modular structure allows starting with the necessary capacity and increasing it without completely replacing the rack.

    The INOXLM solution starts with a two-bicycle module and is available in configurations of:

    • 2 spaces;
    • 4 spaces;
    • 6 spaces;
    • 8 spaces.

    Each two-space module measures 76 cm in length, 48.8 cm in width, and 22 cm in height.

    It is possible to add other modules later, by requesting the appropriate connectors.

    A solution for homes, condominiums, and professional spaces

    The same bike rack can meet very different needs.

    In a garage, it helps prevent bicycles from leaning against walls. In a condominium courtyard, it defines a precise parking area. In a B&B, hotel, or company, it offers guests and employees an organized spot to store their bikes.

    Before choosing, it is useful to consider:

    • how many bicycles need to be accommodated;
    • the actual space available;
    • the type of paving;
    • exposure to rain, humidity, or saltiness;
    • the possibility that the number of bicycles may increase.

    The best solution is not necessarily the one with the most spaces, but the one that is correctly sized for the space and expandable when needs change.

    The INOXLM modular bike rack

    The INOXLM bike rack is designed and manufactured in Italy from satin AISI 304 stainless steel.

    It can be used in garages, courtyards, condominiums, accommodation facilities, companies, and marine environments. The 38 cm distance between supports helps to arrange bicycles more tidily, while the modular structure allows choosing the most suitable configuration.

    The package includes Fischer plugs and stainless steel hardware for fixing. Available configurations accommodate from 2 to 8 bicycles.
